hmmm i wonder about that.
for first 3 days of my existence i've had no name and only picked the name so they stopped bothering me lol
i still don't have attachment to any of the names i used, but i do identify with my form a lot

but maybe it's just me

i had a strong presence from the beginning though, i can see that the name can be a good label or pointer in your brain for the tulpa you are working on(edited)

Oh, that's interesting. Maybe we are biased with this name thing. But still, you needed something for others to attach to, when thinking about you?

I think the conclusion is that tulpa needs something to attach to. Be it form, name, hobby, behavior, philosophy... Even suffering from lack of identity that Question Marks reports, looks like an attachment to something.
What always annoyed me in some beginners was obsession about freedom of choice given to tulpa, being so extreme that you refuse to define anything in your tulpa before dissociating.

I mean, there are people with mentality "I don't want to force anything on my tulpa, they will decide everything". It's hard for them to decide anything if there is nothing that defines them.
hwo are they supposed to decide if they are not there lol

To decide together, there must be him already. You can leave a lot for tulpa to decide, but there was probably a semblance of him you were attached to already when you were deciding together as you said.(edited)
Myself, I feel like I couldn't really understand the idea of wonderland for most of my carrier. I think how it's sometimes described in the community, can be misleading. The key is not visualization but feeling stuff being there.
Btw. @night demon (scaly system), I don't know if it still applies to you but since we still remember your problems with possession or specifically obsession about possession - I think it's good to remind you that tulpamancy shouldn't be about collecting achievements but about your friendship with your tulpa.
I hope you are working on WL because you are really interested, not to ensure your tulpamancy is valid.

Possession, switching, wonderland, imposition, all those stuff - they are for people to learn if they want to and hopefully enhance their experiences but they don't make your tulpa more valid than others and don't make you more advanced tulpamancer or anything like that .

We all have forms. Most of us look like a variation of Gray, but some of us have shifted away from that. Our forms are conceptual however, they become more clear once they are drawn and we like what we see.
Asking your host to draw you, especially when their art skills are not the best, can be a tall order. It's okay if your form is inconsistent when it hits the paper, it's completely normal. Unfortunately, if you don't have the best sense of who you are yet, that can lead to more anxiety and not less.
I wonder if they would have benefited from exploring basic personality forcing. Come up with a handful of traits you would like your tulpa to have and walk into this expecting your tulpa to keep or reject the traits when they're ready to deviate.
I think they left though, I don't think they'll see this

It gets to the point where people get dogmatic and tell newbies they can't give their new tulpa traits or it's abusive

It's so hard to give struggling hosts advice when a bunch of people will get on my case or contradict me for suggesting things like working more on personality or even parroting
Telling your friends about tulpas is a lot safer than family or your parents, but it's a big risk and your friends may or may not be accepting of it.
I don't know how you would talk about tulpas without calling them tulpas, unless your tulpas are comfortable self-identifying as imaginary friends. Don't say you have alters, tulpas are not alters and they will assume you have DID/OSDD when you don't

I thought most of communities got better in those aspects. A shame it's not the case everywhere.
This is the sort of thing I was thinking/talking about earlier, unfortunately
A long kiss goodnight

You think things require work? That's offensive(edited)

People think everything should come totally naturally and then wonder why they can't progress at certain things or why they're more like their hosts than they want to be

It comes from this idea personality is a fixed thing and if I have to fight it it's not really me. Make yourself into the person you want to be
